Borrowing Guidelines

You have access to almost a million items with your library card!  You can check out as many items as you can carry (some restrictions apply).  Most items are available to check out for three weeks.  Movies, TV series, magazines, and video games can only be checked out for one week at a time.  

If an item is not currently available at your library you can place a hold on the item, and you may receive the item from another library in the region, or the item will be reserved for you when it is returned.  Place a hold on items within the Chinook Arch region online, by giving us a call, or by visiting us at any library branch.  You can also change, cancel, or suspend your holds as well.

We’ll bring your item(s) to your requested pick-up library and notify you when your holds arrive.  You will have 12 days to pick up your item(s) and check them out.

If you need more time with an item you have checked out you may be able to keep it longer.   We automatically renew your items up to three times.  BUT if someone else has a hold on your item, you will have to return it by the due date. 

Lethbridge Public Library does not charge any overdue fees. However, if your item belongs to another library, then overdue fees may apply.  Items not returned by the due date may be charged a lost fee, and you will be responsible to either return the item or pay the fee. 

You can pay your fees online with a credit card or with a PayPal account. Or you can pay in person with cash, debit, or credit card at any library branch.

Is there something missing from our collection? You can request it here. Our librarians welcome suggestions! We are always trying to build a collection for our patrons and that isn’t possible if we don’t know what you like.
